Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti recently expressed her concerns over the communal tensions surrounding Holi celebrations. In a statement, she accused certain “bigots” of turning the festival, traditionally a symbol of India’s cultural harmony, into a source of fear for minorities. She alleged that this transformation is happening with the tacit approval of those in power.
Mehbooba Mufti shared her thoughts on social media, reminiscing about her fond memories of celebrating Holi with her Hindu friends, which she described as a joyous and inclusive experience. However, she lamented that the festival’s spirit of unity is being overshadowed by divisive actions. Her remarks came amidst heightened security measures in several cities, as Holi coincided with the second Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan this year.
The PDP leader also warned about the dangerous consequences of pitting Hindus and Muslims against each other, emphasizing the need for unity and understanding. Her comments have sparked discussions about the current socio-political climate and the importance of preserving India’s secular fabric.
