India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has entered the electric vehicle segment with the launch of its first EV, the e-VITARA SUV, introducing an innovative battery rental model alongside it.
The company announced that the e-VITARA is priced at ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), while the battery will be offered on a rental basis at ₹3.99 per kilometer. The move is aimed at reducing the upfront cost of ownership and making electric mobility more affordable for customers.
The e-VITARA has been developed under parent Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, combining design and manufacturing expertise. The SUV is manufactured in India as part of the company’s EV expansion strategy.
Maruti began production of the model in August 2025 and has already exported 13,000 units to 28 countries during the year, signaling strong global interest.
The launch marks a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki as it accelerates its transition toward electric mobility amid rising competition in India’s EV market. The battery subscription plan is expected to address concerns over high battery replacement costs and encourage wider EV adoption.
With the e-VITARA, Maruti aims to strengthen its position in the fast-growing electric SUV segment both domestically and internationally.
