A bronze statue of Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, capturing their iconic pose from the 1995 blockbuster “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ), is set to be installed at Leicester Square in London. This marks a historic moment as it is the first time an Indian film is being honored at this iconic location.

The statue will be part of the “Scenes in the Square” movie trail, which celebrates legendary films and characters. Positioned on the eastern terrace outside the Odeon cinema, the statue pays tribute to a memorable scene from DDLJ, a film that has become a cultural phenomenon over the years.

DDLJ, directed by Aditya Chopra and produced under the Yash Raj Films banner, follows the love story of Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians who fall in love during a European vacation. Leicester Square itself features prominently in the film, as it is where the characters first unknowingly cross paths.

The unveiling of the statue is scheduled for spring 2025, ahead of the film’s 30th anniversary on October 20, 2025. This initiative celebrates the global popularity of Bollywood and highlights London’s rich cultural diversity. It is expected to attract fans from around the world to Leicester Square, further strengthening the cultural bridge between India and the UK.
