The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly convened a special session on April 28, 2025, to address the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22. The Assembly unanimously passed a resolution denouncing the attack and reaffirming its commitment to fostering peace, communal harmony, and progress in the region.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary introduced the resolution, which condemned the barbaric and inhumane act as a direct assault on the ethos of Kashmiriyat and the values enshrined in the Constitution. The resolution also paid tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator who sacrificed his life while protecting tourists during the attack. His bravery was hailed as an enduring inspiration for future generations.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing the Assembly, expressed profound grief over the incident and admitted his failure in ensuring the safety of tourists. He emphasized that the attack had shattered the belief that such incidents were a thing of the past. Abdullah also reflected on the spontaneous unity and resilience displayed by the people of Kashmir, urging leaders to nurture this spirit of solidarity.
The Assembly observed a two-minute silence to honor the victims and extended condolences to their families. Members called for collective efforts to defeat the nefarious designs of those seeking to disrupt communal harmony and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution also appealed to media outlets to report responsibly and avoid inflaming communal tensions. It urged states and Union Territories to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiri citizens residing across India.
