After Nicobar Times raised awareness of its previous exclusion, the cultural programs of the Island Tourism Festival (ITF) 2024 were expanded to Nicobar District, marking a significant development. The updated schedule now calls for two days in Car Nicobar, one day in Nancowry, and one day in Campbell Bay. ITF cultural programs with local and mainland performers would be held at several sites throughout South Andaman District and North & Middle Andaman District, according to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s early press releases.
Wandoor, Wimberlygunj, Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Little Andaman, and the ITF Main Pavilion were among these locations. Nicobar District, on the other hand, was conspicuously missing from the list, raising concerns regarding its absence. In a report titled “Why is Nicobar District Left Out of ITF 2024 Celebrations Again?” that was released on December 2, 2024, Nicobar Times highlighted this exclusion. The addition of three new locations in Nicobar District—Car Nicobar, Nancowry, and Campbell Bay—bringing the total number of locations for ITF programs to thirteen, was then confirmed in a revised press release.
These locations were especially noted in the Nicobar Times story, highlighting the importance of inclusive festivities. The Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District is also assigned to supervise the planning of the events in the area, according to the revised press release. Nicobar District’s participation in the celebrations guarantees that locals and government employees may enjoy top-notch entertainment, promoting a festive mood as they ring in the new year.
