Andaman and Nicobar Islands Festival

The Island Tourism Festival in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been inaugurated, marking the start of a ten-day celebration aimed at promoting island tourism while preserving the region’s rich cultural and indigenous heritage. Held at Netaji Stadium in Port Blair, the festival opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by Lt Governor Admiral DK Joshi (Retd.), in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.

The grand opening featured a colourful procession and elaborate tableaux showcasing the islands’ history, traditions, natural beauty, and way of life. Cultural performances by local and mainland artists highlighted the fusion of diverse traditions and emphasized the importance of connecting younger generations with their roots.

Organised by the Department of IP&T, the festival includes a range of activities such as water sports, flower shows, and musical evenings across multiple island locations, ensuring widespread participation. The event aims to create an immersive cultural experience, strengthen tourism appeal, and celebrate the unique identity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
