In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025, the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman District, organized a series of awareness programmes aimed at educating youth and the community about the dangers of substance abuse.

The events were held on June 18 and 19 at Britech IT Group of Institute and the Nursery Teacher’s Training Institute (NTTI) in Sri Vijaya Puram. A large number of students and faculty members participated in the sessions, which featured expert talks and interactive discussions.

Dr. M.K. Mahato, Medical Officer at IRCA South Andaman, delivered a detailed presentation on the harmful effects of alcohol and drug use, while also offering practical strategies for prevention and recovery. He emphasized the importance of early intervention and community support in combating addiction.

The programme began with a welcome address by Shri R.C. Das, Chairman and CEO of Britech IT & NTTI, who urged students to stay away from addictive substances and focus on building a healthy future. Participants also took a collective pledge to remain drug-free and promote awareness among peers.

The initiative was supported by the District De-addiction and Rehabilitation (DDR) team, with Project Coordinator Shri Rohit Paroi playing a key role in organizing the events. Community members seeking help for substance abuse were encouraged to reach out to IRCA’s support team for guidance and rehabilitation services.
