Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a $200 million defence credit line to support the modernization of Angola’s armed forces. The announcement came during his meeting with Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco in New Delhi, where both leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors.
During the talks, Modi emphasized India’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Angola, including repair, overhaul, and supply of defence platforms. He also highlighted India’s willingness to share expertise in digital public infrastructure, space technology, and capacity building.
Beyond defence, the two nations agreed to expand collaboration in healthcare, diamond processing, fertilizers, and critical minerals. Modi reaffirmed India’s support for Angola’s economic and technological development, underscoring the importance of India-Africa relations.
The meeting also touched upon global security concerns, with Modi reiterating India’s stance on taking firm and decisive action against terrorism and its supporters. The announcement follows recent geopolitical developments, including the Pahalgam terror strike, which has heightened security discussions in India.
