Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to exclude an Assam MP from the party’s delegation for Operation Sindoor, citing concerns over national security.

Without directly naming Gaurav Gogoi, Sarma alleged that one of the nominated MPs had spent two weeks in Pakistan and that his wife had financial ties to a Pakistan-based NGO. He argued that such associations made the MP unsuitable for a sensitive and strategic assignment involving India’s diplomatic outreach on terrorism.

The Congress had nominated Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Raja Brar for the multi-party delegation, which will visit global capitals to present India’s stance on terrorism. However, Sarma’s remarks have intensified political tensions, with Congress dismissing the allegations as baseless.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led government has included Shashi Tharoor in the delegation despite his absence from the Congress list. Tharoor welcomed the decision, stating that national interest should take precedence over party politics.

The diplomatic outreach follows Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-terrorism strikes in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
