Mumbai, August 23 — Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are once again in the spotlight amid renewed speculation about their marital status. Reports surfaced this week claiming that Sunita had filed for divorce in December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion under Section 13(1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
The couple, married for 38 years, has faced intermittent rumours of separation over the past few years. However, Govinda’s manager, Shashi, dismissed the latest reports as recycled and exaggerated. “Every couple has disagreements. These are old matters that people and the media are now trying to spice up for their own benefit,” he told Hindustan Times.
Govinda’s legal counsel, Lalit Bindra, also refuted claims of an ongoing divorce case. Speaking to NDTV, he stated, “There is no case. Everything is being settled. People are just bringing up old matters”.
Sources close to the family acknowledged that the couple has experienced ups and downs, including temporary separations, but insisted that they remain committed to each other. A close friend of the actor added, “Govinda would never leave Sunita. She anchors him. Even if matters have gone to court, they will sort out their differences as they always do”.
While Sunita has reportedly attended court hearings, Govinda’s absence from proceedings has been noted. The couple is said to be undergoing court-mandated counselling since June 2025.
Despite the legal undertones, Govinda was recently seen in public appearing calm and cheerful, even blowing kisses to paparazzi at the airport. His team emphasized that the couple is focusing on their children’s careers and upcoming family celebrations, including Ganesh Chaturthi.
As of now, neither Govinda nor Sunita has issued a direct public statement. The situation remains fluid, but insiders maintain that the couple is working through personal matters privately and no formal separation is underway.
