Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has broken his indefinite fast and accepted water, the Punjab government informed the Supreme Court. This development comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding the farmers’ protests and their demands. The Punjab government conveyed to the Supreme Court that Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike, has ended his fast and taken water.
This action occurred after the release of detained farmer leaders. Dallewal’s fast was part of a larger farmers’ agitation demanding stronger assurances regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other related issues.
The Punjab government also informed the Supreme Court that the highways and roads that had been blocked by the protesting farmers had been cleared. The Supreme Court acknowledged the development and commended the efforts that led to Dallewal ending his fast.
The court also asked for status reports from the Punjab and Haryana governments regarding the current situation on the ground. The court also asked the high-powered committee that is looking into the farmers’ grievances to file a supplementary status report.
Despite Dallewal ending his fast, other farmer leaders, such as Sarwan Singh Pandher, have indicated that protests will continue. Those leaders have also made accusations against the Central and Punjab governments. This situation reflects the ongoing complexities of the farmers’ protests and the efforts to find resolutions to their demands.
