Bangkok, Sept 29 — Nearly two decades after the release of the cult classic Awarapan, actor Emraan Hashmi has officially begun filming its much-anticipated sequel, Awarapan 2. The production commenced this week in Bangkok with a traditional mahurat puja, marking the start of the first shooting schedule.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the film is being produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner. Hashmi reprises his role as Shivam, a character that resonated deeply with audiences for its emotional depth and gritty portrayal. The sequel promises to continue Shivam’s journey, blending themes of love, redemption, and action, while retaining the intense storytelling and musical legacy of the original.

The announcement of the shoot coincided with Hashmi’s birthday, adding a personal touch to the launch. Sharing the news on social media, Hashmi and Bhatt posted a behind-the-scenes image with the caption, “Tera Mera Rishta Purana bro,” referencing the iconic song from the 2007 film.

Awarapan 2 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 3, 2026. Actress Disha Patani has been confirmed as the female lead, joining Hashmi in what is expected to be a powerful on-screen pairing.

The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, starred Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashish Vidyarthi. Though it underperformed at the box office upon release, the film gained cult status over time, celebrated for its soundtrack and emotional narrative.

Hashmi was last seen in the Telugu action film They Call Him OG, where he played the antagonist opposite Pawan Kalyan. With Awarapan 2, he returns to a role that defined a significant chapter in his career, aiming to deliver another memorable performance.
