The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case. The chargesheet, submitted to Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, also names Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused.
The case revolves around allegations of money laundering linked to the National Herald newspaper, which is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL). AJL is owned by Young Indian Private Limited, where Sonia and Rahul Gandhi each hold a 38% stake, making them majority shareholders.
The ED’s investigation stems from accusations that AJL properties worth over ₹2,000 crore were acquired for a mere ₹50 lakh through Young Indian Private Limited. The agency has also initiated proceedings to seize immovable assets valued at ₹661 crore, including prime properties in Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow.
Congress has strongly criticized the chargesheet, labeling it as a “state-sponsored crime” and accusing the government of political vendetta. The party has vowed to fight the case, asserting that its leadership will not be silenced.
The court is set to hear arguments on the chargesheet’s cognizance on April 25.
