On June 24, 2025, as part of the continuing Poultry Development Programme, about 1,500 Khaki Campbell day-old ducklings were handed to two Gram Panchayats in South Andaman and one in Middle Andaman.  Duck farming is gradually becoming a viable source of revenue for farmers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In response to the increased demand for excellent ducklings, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has been aggressively supplying Khaki Campbell and Vigova ducklings through its Poultry Development Plan, which was developed under the Secretary’s leadership.

The ducklings distributed were hatched at the Central Hatchery in Dollygunj and are the first in a series. To provide continuing assistance, the Department has been purchasing commercial eggs of the Khaki Campbell and Vigova kinds from the Central Breeding Farm at Hessarghatta, Bengaluru, and will continue to distribute them according to the farmers’ demands.

60 farms benefited from the most recent distribution effort.
