KOLKATA, Sept. 19, 2025 — The official trailer of the much-anticipated Bengali historical drama Devi Chowdhurani was released this week, igniting widespread acclaim across social media and film circles. Directed by Subhrajit Mitra and produced by ADited Motion Pictures in collaboration with LOK Arts Collective, the film stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srabanti Chatterjee in commanding lead roles and is set for a nationwide release on September 26, ahead of Durga Puja.

Based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s iconic novel, the film reimagines the life of India’s first female rebel leader, Devi Chowdhurani, against the backdrop of the 18th-century Sannyasi-Fakir rebellion. The trailer showcases intense visuals, stirring music, and emotionally charged performances, capturing the transformation of a village woman into a revolutionary force under the mentorship of Bhavani Pathak, portrayed by Prosenjit.

Srabanti Chatterjee, who plays the titular role, described the character as “an emotion” and “an ode to unsung heroes who gave their blood and sweat to our motherland.” Prosenjit added, “Bhavani Pathak and Devi Chowdhurani were storms of courage and rebellion. Bringing their story to life is more than acting—it is channeling the fire and defiance of a history that refuses to be forgotten”.

The trailer has been hailed as “goosebump-inducing” and “a historic moment in Bengali cinema” by viewers and critics alike. Producers Aparna Dasgupta, Aniruddha Dasgupta, and Soumyajit Majumdar noted that the overwhelming response reflects the film’s resonance with contemporary audiences and its potential to revive interest in Bengal’s revolutionary past.

Devi Chowdhurani also marks India’s first official Indo-UK co-production in Bengali cinema, as declared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Waves 2025 summit. The film features music by Pandit Bickram Ghosh and a strong supporting cast including Arjun Chakraborty, Bibriti Chatterjee, Darshana Banik, and Kinjal Nanda.

With its blend of history, rebellion, and cinematic grandeur, Devi Chowdhurani is poised to be one of the most significant releases of the festive season, promising both entertainment and education for audiences across generations.
