A cloudburst and subsequent flash floods caused by intense rainfall have severely impacted the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in one fatality and approximately twelve individuals reported missing, according to officials on Tuesday.Mandi has experienced an exceptionally high amount of rainfall totaling 216.8 mm since Monday evening.

Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, informed PTI that one individual has lost their life, while 12 to 13 others are currently unaccounted for.

The reported in Karsog, while around seven individuals from two families are unaccounted for in Syanj, which is situated in Mandi.

Devgan stated that numerous individuals have been rescued and relocated to safer areas, as cloudbursts and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have caused significant destruction in various locations throughout the district.

There have been reports of damage to residential structures and agricultural land. In Karsog’s Purana Bazar, as well as in the villages of Kutti, Baral, Mamel, and Bhyal, roads and vehicles have been swept away.

In Syathi village of Laungni panchayat in Mandi, it has been reported that a dozen houses, along with cow sheds, horses, cattle, and goats, have been washed away due to the intense rainfall, while water has infiltrated the homes of residents near the Patikari Power Project close to The water level of Pandoh Dam has reached 2,922 feet against the danger mark of 2,941 feet.

The meteorological department has issued a warning regarding a low to moderate risk of flash floods in certain areas of six districts: Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan, over the next 24 hours.
