Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted an on-ground inspection of waterlogged roads across the city following unseasonal heavy rainfall. She visited Majnu Ka Tilla and other affected areas, directing officials to expedite relief efforts and infrastructure repairs.

Gupta assured residents that her government is actively working to resolve the crisis but emphasized that addressing the city’s drainage issues will take time. She criticized the previous administration, calling the waterlogging problem a “disease inherited from the former government”.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi as strong winds and heavy downpours disrupted traffic and daily life. Over 77 mm of rain was recorded at the Safdarjung station, with other observatories reporting similar figures.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma visited Minto Bridge, a notorious flood-prone area, and assured residents that four pumps were actively working to remove stagnant water.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the BJP-led government, accusing it of failing to address the city’s drainage issues despite controlling multiple administrative bodies.

Tragically, the heavy rains also led to a house collapse in Najafgarh, claiming the lives of a mother and her three children after an uprooted tree fell on their home.

Gupta has instructed officials to identify all waterlogged areas and implement long-term solutions to prevent future flooding.
