The Delhi Assembly witnessed high drama as seven AAP MLAs were suspended following protests demanding the resignation of Law Minister Kapil Mishra. The protests erupted after a court ordered an FIR against Mishra for his alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots. Carrying placards and raising slogans, the MLAs stormed into the well of the House, prompting Speaker Vijender Gupta to take action. The Leader of Opposition, Atishi, accused the BJP of shielding Mishra, questioning why he wasn’t behind bars like other accused.

The suspended MLAs were instructed to vacate the Assembly premises entirely. The legal proceedings against Mishra stem from allegations by a resident who claimed his involvement in the communal violence that left 53 people dead and many injured. Delhi Police, however, opposed the plea, stating Mishra had no role in the riots.
