In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Nancowry organised a comprehensive community awareness programme aimed at educating residents about the dangers of substance abuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

Held on June 26, the event brought together local leaders, healthcare professionals, students, and community members in a united stand against drug misuse. The programme featured a series of informative sessions, interactive discussions, and cultural performances designed to engage participants across age groups.

Medical officers and health educators from CHC Nancowry delivered presentations on the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. They emphasized early intervention, the importance of family support, and the availability of rehabilitation services. Special attention was given to the role of youth in building a resilient, drug-free society.

To foster community involvement, the event included a pledge ceremony where attendees committed to spreading awareness and supporting those affected by substance abuse. Students participated in poster-making and slogan-writing competitions, creatively expressing their commitment to the cause.

The programme concluded with a rally through the village, with participants holding placards and chanting slogans advocating for a healthier, drug-free future. Local leaders praised the initiative and called for sustained efforts to combat the growing threat of drug abuse in remote island communities.

The observance aligns with the global theme promoted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), reinforcing the message that prevention, education, and community solidarity are key to addressing the world drug problem.
