On Thursday, February 5, 2026, both Houses of Parliament continued their deliberations on the “Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address” as part of the ongoing Budget Session. Within the Lok Sabha, the motion was initiated by Sarbananda Sonowal and seconded by Tejasvi Surya, with a total of 18 hours allocated for the debate. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi was slated to respond to the motion on Wednesday, February 4, his reply was delayed after the Speaker was forced to adjourn the session due to persistent disruptions and sloganeering from the Opposition.

As deliberations on the Motion of Thanks persist today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to provide his formal response in the Rajya Sabha. This ongoing debate is a central component of the 65-day Budget Session, which includes 30 sittings and is slated to end on April 2. To facilitate a thorough review of departmental Demands for Grants by Standing Committees, Parliament will observe a scheduled recess from February 13 until March 9, at which point both Houses will reconvene for the remainder of the session.
