Asha Bhosle, often regarded as the most renowned and versatile vocalist in modern India, passed away at the age of 92, it was confirmed by her son. Following heart problems that required her to be hospitalized, she died in Mumbai.

Her death ends a landmark chapter in Indian cinema. Over an eight-decade career, Asha Bhosle recorded over 12,000 tracks and solidified her place as the ultimate queen of playback (i.e., recorded) music. The countless songs that her voice brought to life made an unforgettable impression on the millions of people who listened to her work.

Her influence was felt throughout the world; she was celebrated in 1997’s “Brimful Of Asha” by Cornershop and collaborated with many non-Indian musicians, including Boy George. With a voice that inspired so many, Asha Bhosle will continue to be the soundtrack to every person who heard her music. Remembering Lata Mangeshkar Tributes have been received from around the globe. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that she was “one of the most iconic and versatile voices that the country has ever known,” adding that her remarkable journey contributed to the richness of Indian culture and touched many people all over the world. Hema Malini, a well-known actress and politician, expressed sadness over her passing and described an emotionally close bond between herself and Lata. Shankar Mahadevan (music composer) said her legacy would never die.

Lata’s genius lay in the vastness of her voice. She was an easy transition from love ballads to highly energetic dance music, thereby becoming the most sought-after singer by composers of all musical categories. The songs Dum Maro Dum and Piya Tu Ab To Aaja are two songs that exemplify her flexibility, and her work on the soundtracks for the films Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Ijaazat, Sagar and Umrao Jaan are examples of her most renowned work. Asha Bhosle was born into the Mangeshkar clan on 8th September 1933, in the state of Maharashtra, where her father Deenanath and sister Lata had made their marks in music history. Lata became an iconic figure known for her perfectionist approach to classical music. In stark contrast, Asha created her own distinctive style, boldness and flare.

Not only did Asha Bhosle have her share of trials and tribulations, including an unhappy marriage at a young age; she also persevered through these hardships and raised three children as a single parent, subsequently revitalising both her career and life.. Asha worked with other legends such as Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, forming some of the most memorable duets in Indian musical history.

By continually reinventing herself throughout her career, Asha remained relevant from the 1950s through to the present day. Asha’s collaboration with international artists such as Michael Stipe in the early 1990s and, more recently, an IPL song with Australian cricketer Brett Lee, demonstrate the versatility of her voice and artistry.

Lata’s musical relationship with R.D. Burman was one of the most famous collaborations in Bollywood history. They had a huge influence on the evolution of film music by combining a unique, groundbreaking sound. Lata consistently credits Burman (also known as Pancham) for encouraging her to reach her full vocal potential.
