The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) have officially announced their alliance for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This partnership was confirmed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a press conference in Chennai, where he expressed confidence in the coalition’s ability to challenge the ruling DMK and form the next government in Tamil Nadu.

The alliance will operate under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) at the state level. Amit Shah emphasized that the BJP would respect the AIADMK’s autonomy in internal matters, including decisions about expelled leaders like O. Panneerselvam and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran.

This collaboration is seen as a strategic move to consolidate votes and strengthen the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu. Both parties have a history of working together in elections, and this renewed alliance aims to build on their past successes. Senior leaders from both parties, including BJP state president K. Annamalai and AIADMK leaders KP Munusamy and SP Velumani, were present during the announcement.

The alliance has sparked discussions about its potential impact on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, with both parties gearing up for a united campaign to challenge the DMK’s dominance in the state.
