Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s latest release, Thamma, has made a robust debut at the box office, collecting ₹24.87 crore on its opening day. The film, which premiered on October 21 during the Diwali festivities, marks the fifth installment in Maddock Films’ Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) and has emerged as one of the strongest openers in the franchise.

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma benefited from the holiday season and minimal competition, with only one other film, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, releasing during the same period. The film recorded an overall theatre occupancy of 32.83% across India, with evening shows peaking at 42.91%, indicating strong word-of-mouth and festive footfall.

While Thamma surpassed previous MHCU titles like Bhediya, Stree, and Munjya, its opening figures fell short of last year’s Stree 2 (₹35 crore) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹32 crore). Nonetheless, it marks Ayushmann Khurrana’s biggest opening to date, while Rashmika Mandanna has previously seen higher debuts with films like Pushpa 2 and Chhaava.

The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences but has managed to draw strong family crowds post-Diwali. Industry analysts are now watching closely to see how Thamma performs over the weekend and on regular working days, which will determine its long-term box office trajectory.
