Veteran actor Anupam Kher is set to make waves at the 78th Cannes Film Festival with the world premiere of his directorial venture, Tanvi The Great, on May 17. The film marks Kher’s return to direction and features an ensemble cast, including debutant Shubhangi Dutt, Karan Tacker, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, and Arvind Swami.
Kher, who has been actively sharing glimpses of his Cannes journey, took to social media to introduce the film’s writers, Abhishek Dixit and Ankur Suman. In a behind-the-scenes video, he expressed his excitement about the upcoming screening, stating, “Here, our film Tanvi The Great is going to have its world premiere on the 17th. But I thought I’d introduce you to two other writers of this film. So, let me introduce you first. This is Abhishek Dixit ji. And this is Ankur Suman ji”.
The actor also made a striking red carpet appearance, dressed in a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, adhering to Cannes’ formal dress code. Sharing pictures from the event, he captioned his post, “You CAN try to look good in CANNES! Hai Na?? #TanviTheGreat #WorldPremier”.
Adding to the excitement, Kher had a memorable reunion with Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, who was honored with the Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement at the festival. The two actors, who previously worked together in Silver Linings Playbook, shared a warm interaction, with Kher introducing debutante Shubhangi Dutt to De Niro, who graciously offered his best wishes.
The film, produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC, boasts sound design by Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, known for Slumdog Millionaire. While the official release date is yet to be announced, Tanvi The Great has already generated significant buzz with Cannes audiences eagerly awaiting its premiere.
