The Department of Environment and Forests, A&N Administration, held a ceremony at Andaman College, Sri Vijaya Puram, to celebrate the 76th Van Mahotsav. The event highlighted the importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance. The Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, was the prominent guest. Other senior officials from the Administration and Forest Department attended the event. The Chief Secretary commended the Forest Department’s environmental awareness initiatives and underlined the importance of tree planting and shared responsibility in maintaining the Islands’ green cover.

Inspiring students to take an active role in environmental stewardship, the event focused on forest conservation and sustainability through the planting of saplings, presentations by forest officials, and cultural performances by college students. Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS, CCF, commended the Forest Department’s dedication to preserving natural ecosystems, while Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal of ANCOL, greeted dignitaries and attendees. The Forest Department encouraged tree planting by distributing saplings as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign.
