In cooperation with a number of partners, the Extension Office, Industries Department, Car Nicobar, successfully carried out a number of awareness campaigns on the “PM Vishwakarma” Scheme in every hamlet of Car Nicobar between February 3 and March 8, 2025. The initiative, which sought to improve public outreach and give vital information about the project, particularly to those involved in traditional Nicobari Hodi (canoe) building and mat and basket weaving, involved 457 tribal adolescents and villages.

Throughout the sessions, Car Nicobar, the Industries Promotion Officer, provided an overview of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme’s advantages, including the incentives available, the qualifying requirements, the necessary paperwork, and the registration procedure. He urged the villagers to join up according to their trades, emphasizing how the program might greatly raise their socioeconomic standing and improve their standard of living. The Supervisor (Coir), Extension Office, Car Nicobar, made sure the message was well understood by presenting it in Nicobarese, which helped participants better understand the benefits of the plan.

The awareness campaign was also supported by Village Level Workers from the Block Development Office, Car Nicobar, and Fisheries Department representatives. The impact was increased by the active participation of Village Headmen, Secretaries, and Village Council officials who spoke to the Nicobarese residents and encouraged them to benefit from the plan. By providing local craftsmen and traditional workers with the information and tools they need to improve their standard of living with government assistance, the awareness campaigns effectively established a platform for their empowerment.
