Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk has firmly denied speculation that he is set to replace Diljit Dosanjh in the upcoming patriotic film Border 2. The clarification comes amid a swirl of controversy surrounding Dosanjh’s casting, following backlash over his collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a separate project.

Rumours gained traction after reports suggested that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had urged the producers of Border 2—including Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and director Anurag Singh—to reconsider Dosanjh’s role in light of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

In response, Ammy Virk’s team issued a statement dismissing the speculation as unfounded. “These are just speculations. We haven’t got any call from anyone as of now,” a representative told the media.

Sources close to the production confirmed that Diljit Dosanjh’s casting was finalized nearly nine months ago, well before the recent controversies. With nearly half of the film already shot, insiders say replacing him at this stage would be “logistically unfeasible”.

While some internal discussions reportedly floated Virk’s name as a potential replacement—given that Dosanjh has only filmed a few scenes—no official decision has been made. The production team has yet to release a formal statement addressing the matter.

The controversy has sparked debate within the film industry, with FWICE expressing concern over national sentiment and urging lead actor Sunny Deol to reconsider his association with Dosanjh. However, industry insiders suggest that the film’s progress and prior commitments may outweigh the pressure to recast.

Border 2, a sequel to the 1997 war epic, is being produced under the banners of JP Films and T-Series. The film is expected to release in 2026.
