Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hailed the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections as a “resounding mandate” for women’s safety, good governance, and the welfare of the poor. His remarks came shortly after the NDA crossed the majority mark, securing a decisive win over the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance.

In a public statement, Shah said, “Heartfelt salute to the people of Bihar, protectors of knowledge, hard work, and democracy. This mandate is a clear endorsement of the NDA’s commitment to women’s safety, good governance, and inclusive development.” He added that the alliance, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, would fulfill the people’s expectations with renewed dedication.

Shah emphasized that the NDA’s performance reflected public approval of its governance model, particularly its focus on empowering women and improving law and order. “I assure the people of Bihar, especially our mothers and sisters, that the trust you have placed in us will be honored with even greater responsibility,” he said.

The NDA’s campaign had prominently featured women-centric welfare schemes, including financial incentives, education support, and safety measures. Analysts believe that these initiatives played a significant role in mobilizing women voters, contributing to the alliance’s strong showing across rural and urban constituencies.

Prime Minister Modi also praised the electorate for their “mature and development-oriented” choice, while Nitish Kumar credited the people of Bihar for reaffirming their faith in the NDA’s vision for progress.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections were held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with a record voter turnout of 67.13%. The NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), and allied parties, won over 200 of the 243 assembly seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc, led by the RJD and Congress, suffered a significant setback.

The results are being seen as a major political endorsement of the Modi government’s national agenda and Nitish Kumar’s regional leadership, particularly in the face of a fragmented opposition.
