The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently conducted raids at Amazon and Flipkart warehouses in Delhi, uncovering thousands of substandard products. The operation lasted over 15 hours at Amazon’s warehouse in the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, where more than 3,500 electrical items, including geysers and food mixers, were seized. These products were either missing the mandatory ISI mark or had counterfeit ISI labels, with an estimated value of ₹70 lakh.
A separate raid at Flipkart’s subsidiary, Instakart Services, in Trinagar led to the confiscation of 590 pairs of sports footwear worth ₹6 lakh. These items lacked the required ISI certification and manufacturing details.
The BIS has intensified its crackdown on e-commerce platforms to ensure compliance with quality standards. Violations of the BIS Act, 2016, can result in penalties, including imprisonment and fines. Amazon and Flipkart have yet to respond to the raids.
Amazon and Flipkart have not yet commented on the raids.
