Mumbai — A viral newspaper clipping claiming that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan regrets his cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s 2025 action thriller Coolie has been confirmed as fabricated, according to multiple media fact-checks and industry sources.
The image, which circulated widely on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), attributed quotes to Khan suggesting that his role in Coolie was “badly written” and “a big mistake.” The supposed interview claimed Khan accepted the cameo solely out of respect for Rajinikanth and had no creative involvement in the film’s production.
However, the clipping lacks basic journalistic identifiers such as a byline, publication date, and source attribution. No credible media outlet has published or verified the statements, and Khan’s team has not issued any official comment endorsing the claims. Industry analysts and entertainment portals have dismissed the content as misinformation, noting that Khan has never publicly criticized the film or his role in it.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, featuring Rajinikanth in the lead and a surprise cameo by Aamir Khan in the climax. While the film received mixed reviews and underperformed relative to expectations—grossing approximately ₹515 crore worldwide—there is no substantiated evidence that Khan expressed regret over his participation.
During promotional events, Khan described his appearance in Coolie as a “fun experience” and a tribute to Rajinikanth’s legacy. Reports of a future collaboration between Khan and Kanagaraj on a superhero film have since been shelved, but sources suggest this decision was unrelated to the cameo’s reception.
The incident underscores the growing challenge of combating misinformation in the entertainment industry, where doctored content can quickly influence public perception. Fans and media consumers are urged to verify sources before accepting viral claims as fact.
